The fire protection equipment and systems adopting special or advanced technologies not covered by the fire service act and regulations shall obtain the certification by the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications.
A person intending to obtain the certification shall get a performance evaluation conducted by the Japan Fire Equipment Inspection Institute or the FESC as a registered inspection body.
The FESC also performs preliminary evaluation of individual pieces of equipment and systems to shorten the term of formal evaluation.
Fire protection equipment and systems, except special fire protection equipment and systems certified by the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, installed in fire prevention property shall have equal or greater performance than the levels required by the standard under the fire service act and regulations.
